29 Acacia

29 Acacia (formally written as 29acacia) is developing the first scalable cotton replacement made from agricultural banana waste, achieving consistent market fit for ready-to-wear fashion. The company extracts fiber from G9 banana tree agricultural waste (150M tons available annually that would otherwise be burned) and processes it using unique solar drying technology. With exclusive access to solar dryers on 3.5K farms and proprietary information about optimum drying conditions, 29acacia's process delivers consistent quality, reduces cost (45%) and waste (25%) compared to competitors using line drying. 29acacia has developed enzymatic softening technology and automatic decortication machinery to enable a high percentage of waste fiber in the material mix and production at global scale. This cuts greenhouse gas emissions by 90% compared with cotton fiber and requires only 100 liters of water per kilo to process—compared to cotton's 10,000 – 20,000 liters. The production by-product, organic fertilizer, goes back to farmers for zero-waste circularity.
